Outside This Week Late May Featured Image

Outside This Week · Late May

This week our observations took us to a nearby beach, along with many afternoons spent in our backyard. We added to the beauty we saw outside by making rainbow chalk art, then watched heavy rain wash it away the next day. We also wondered about little ants carrying tiny grains of sand.

What We Noticed

  • First strawberries ripe
  • Rain washed the chalk art away
  • A raccoon ran across the fence!
  • The plants need more water now

Weather Conditions

Sunny and warm, with 1 rainy day.

Field Notes

  • About 43 quintillion atoms are in an average grain of sand
  • We looked for treasure on the beach and found 8 rusty bits
  • Water doesn’t mix with sand the same way it mixes with dirt
