Field Notes · Mid-July
This week we noticed new plants growing, different flowers blooming, and others beginning to turn brown. Everything seemed dry, with only the greenest lawns being watered every day to maintain their color. We had our first thunderstorms of the season and wondered if forest fire season would soon begin as well.
What We Noticed
- Dahlias are taller and full of buds
- The Fern is full and lush in a shady spot
- Aster is blooming, and new sprouts appeared in the pollinator garden
- Feverfew plant is drying out
- Our first baby zucchini is growing
Weather Conditions
We had two very stormy days, with thunderstorms lasting over 6 hours.
Even after the storms, the ground is still so dry. It is hard to find a cool, dark place where pill bugs can hide.
Field Notes
I can peel bark off a dead tree with my hands.
There are at least two types of lichen growing on one branch.
It doesn’t look like there any residents in the pollinator home yet.
