Nature Notes ยท August

It has begun to feel like late summer now. The days are still sunny, dry, and warm, but there is a hint of coolness too. We noticed crab apples and leaves beginning to fall, and discovered a new maple tree covered in clusters of propeller seeds. We also hunted for four-leaf clovers and wondered about the best time to find them and how to preserve one.

What We Noticed

  • Leaves and crabapples are starting to fall from the trees
  • Crabapples have a sweet smell but a sour taste
  • Shade feels good on a sunny afternoon
  • We found a new maple tree with clusters of propeller seeds, each cluster has 23 or more!
