Nature Notes End of Summer Featured Image

Nature Notes · End of Summer

Our last week of summer was cooler, but still sunny. Familiar creatures and a few new visitors kept appearing in our yard, as we noticed colors beginning to change around us. It was a big surprise to discover that the gray squirrel is actually two! No wonder it seems so busy, there was more than one animal. We wondered about the little brown squirrel we saw earlier in the year.

What We Noticed

In our backyard:

  • I saw two gray squirrels in the yard at the same time!
  • A pair of Steller’s Jays arrived, and they visit the yard often
  • The bunny is still coming and going too

Field Notes

The fruit on the Strawberry Tree Is turning red.

Lilac leaves are changing colors.

There are lots of chamomile flowers again. It bloomed in spring too. I wonder if these are new plants that have grown from seeds?
