Field Notes Late Summer Featured Image

Field Notes · Late Summer

This week we noticed a change in the weather. It was cooler at night with foggy mornings, but still warm and sunny in the afternoon. There is more moisture now, so mushrooms are beginning to appear, while the animals are still working hard gathering food. We continued to hunt for the perfect clover in the patch growing happily in the cooler, damp grass.

What We Noticed

In our backyard:

  • The gray squirrel was busy at 6:30 a.m. and still running across the fence at 7:00 p.m.
  • I saw mushrooms growing in my neighbor’s green grassy yard
  • Spider webs have seeds stuck in them

Weather Conditions

We had cooler mornings, but it was still sunny in the afternoon.

The temperature was down into the 40s °F at night.

Field Notes

I collected 7 rocks, 4 clovers, and 1 red, ripe strawberry.

Leaves are starting to turn colors now.

There is a fall webworm nest up in the tree, I wonder if it will happen next?

Wondering About

How big of a clover can I find?
